Covid-19 Update-March 16, 2020

Dear Parents,

Due to the updates from health officials, we are making the decision to close Montessori at the end of business (5:30 PM) tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17th. At the moment our current plan is to reopen on Monday, March 30th.

Even with our current absentee rate of over 50%, social distancing is not something that is possible in any type of school setting. Nor would we be able to follow each child/parent to disinfect whatever they may have touched as they work in the classroom or walk through the building.

We looked at how quickly the flu came through our building over the last five weeks. Even with symptoms of the flu presenting within three days, we had weeks with an absentee rate of 40 children and then almost every one of them had at least one family member who also contracted it.

The one thing health officials agree on is, if by some chance it’s not already here, it’s coming, and we can only work to minimize the surge. And, hopefully if you or someone you know needs a hospital bed due to Covid-19 or some other medical emergency, there will be one available.

Sadly, we will not be able to have the school play, regardless of when school comes back into session. Other school functions such as classroom events, The Sugar Bush Social, etc. will be rescheduled if possible when school resumes

Please go to the EZ lunch app and mark “no lunch” through spring break so you are not charged.

Check your teacher’s blog for information regarding things you can do with your child during this time. Also, please let us know should anyone in your family contract the virus, so we can keep track of what is happening within our school.

On Wednesday, our staff will be coming in to disinfect the entire building, so we are ready to go when we return to our regular schedule.

Stay well,

Diane and Kristi
